The Alexanders. Vol. 1 & 2. Historical Fiction.

Review of The Alexanders by Author Angela Wren of Great Britain.

"A fascinating historical novel from Allan Hudson. Once again, Allan puts you right at the heart of the action with his particular narrative style. As a family saga that moves from Scotland to Canada, this story is not quite as action-packed as the adventure stories Mr Hudson also writes. Nevertheless it kept me turning the page. The characters are well-drawn and you can't help but be drawn into the their story from the very first page."

In the turbulent waters off Saltcoats, Scotland, Danny Alexander dies in a boating accident. He leaves behind a wife, seven children and no hope. Dominic is the middle child. With a broken heart, his mother is forced to leave him with his bachelor uncle, Duff. None of them are happy with the decision. Eleven-year-old Dominic Alexander must earn his keep. There are no free rides. Yet despite the difficulties, he finds his place in the structured world of his uncle and overcomes his loneliness.
Fortune and misfortune follow the young man until adversity forces him to make a decision that will affect the rest of his life. Is emigrating to Canada the answer?

Review by Author Cheryl Schenk of Calgary, Alberta.
A most enjoyable read. The author has done an impressive job of taking us through 9 years in the life of Dominic Alexander. A life packed with people, events both happy and sad, and accomplishments, and yet his life has only just begun. Also, I was impressed with the world history that continuously unfolded throughout the story. I spent a lot of time Googling much of that history. Also, I feel that I know so much more about New Brunswick, a province I have yet to visit. I look forward to more from the Alexanders.

5 Star review of The Alexanders. Vol. 2 by reader L. Bourque:
Vol.2 is every bit as good as vol. 1

"I very much enjoy reading novels by Allan Hudson. He writes very well. I especially like his characters. I feel like I know them personally."

The Alexander Saga continues. Who was the woman he saw in Halifax in Volume 1?
Dominic has his up and downs as life continues in his new country. His business is growing. His wife is expecting their first child. The Roaring 20’s brings speakeasys, flappers, a booming stock market, disregard for prohibition. Everyone who can is investing in the future. Europe is rebuilding after the war and supplies from North America are in high demand. Will Dominic get on the investing train, or will he be cautious? The words of his late Uncle Duff ring loudly in his mind – “Watch your pennies, lad. Don’t waste your money.”
Will Dominic’s decisions keep the business intact, or will he follow the crowd?
