Chuck has a new thriller and he is sharing the STBT with us this week.

Read on, my friends.

 Title: Cerulean Blue Murder

Series: Donovan: Thief for Hire

Synopsis:

Donovan and Beth are hired to retrieve and transport three small packages across the western Mediterranean, all very legal, of course. The problem is, highly illegal artwork appears to be following the packages on the same cruise ship’s path from Spain, through France and Monaco, to Italy.

The secret involves Donovan’s employer hiring a second thief, called The Magician, to enter into the same quest. Is this a game? When people start getting killed, it doesn’t feel like a game.

Donovan decides to pursue the quest despite the elevation in danger. Who knows; the stolen artwork may provide an additional, lucrative payday. Or it could get them killed.

Travel in the lap of luxury with Donovan and Beth as they cruise from one world class city to another. Will they get rich, or will they fall prey to The Magician’s murderous ways?

The Story Behind the Story:

My wife and I took a cruise across the Western Mediterranean on a small—100 passengers—luxury ship. It was glorious, with ample time to visit all of the best coastal cities in Spain, France, Monaco, Tuscany, and Rome. As we travelled, it occurred to me that there was room for shenanigans on a cruise like this, and an idea began to take shape. What if a luxury cruise became a quest?

I very much wanted to combine the delight of living the lifestyles of the rich and famous (while I am neither of these things!) with the thought of being this close to illegal temptations. And with every city, the idea for a story became more concrete.

Every city became a genuine surprise to me, in that I fell in love with them as I walked their streets. One in particular held my thrall, and I placed the crisis there. I can’t wait to get back to it.

A question before you go, Chuck.

Scribbler: Who was your favourite author, or story, growing up?
Chuck: Growing up, my favourite author was Rex Stout. His Nero Wolfe detective series was brilliant, from plot, to character development, to the skill with which Stout painted his characters—good and evil—in shades of grey. No one was all good or all bad; they were human.
